چکیده

Shen T, Baker K. Venous return and clinical hemodynamics: how the body works during acute hemorrhage. Adv Physiol Educ 39: 267–271, 2015; doi:10.1152/advan.00050.2015.—Venous return is a major determinant of cardiac output. Adjustments within the venous system are critical for maintaining venous pressure during loss in circulating volume. This article reviews two factors that are thought to enable the venous system to compensate during acute hemorrhage: 1) changes in venous elastance and 2) mobilization of unstressed blood volume into stressed blood volume. We show that mobilization of unstressed blood volume is the predominant and more effective mechanism in preserving venous pressure. Preservation of mean circulatory filling pressure helps sustain venous return and thus cardiac output during significant hemorrhage.

Theoretical Analysis of the Relative Impact of Obesity on Hemodynamic Stability During Acute Hemorrhagic Shock

BACKGROUND Evidence suggests that morbid obesity may be an independent risk factor for adverse outcomes in patients with traumatic injuries. OBJECTIVES In this study, a theoretic analysis using a derivation of the Guyton model of cardiovascular physiology examines the expected impact of obesity on hemodynamic changes in Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP) and Cardiac Output (CO) during Hemorrhagic S...

Cardiovascular consequences of weightlessness promote advances in clinical and trauma care.

Cardiovascular adaptations driven by exposure to weightlessness cause some astronauts to experience orthostatic intolerance upon return to Earth. Maladaptations of spaceflight that lead to hemodynamic instability are temporary, and therefore astronauts provide for researchers a powerful model to study cardiovascular dysfunction in terrestrial patients. Orthostatic intolerance in astronauts is l...

Heart-lung interactions.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW Assessment of cardiovascular stability using ventilation-induced changes in measured physiological variables, referred to as functional hemodynamic monitoring, usually requires measurement of ventilation-induced changes in venous return. Thus, it is important to understand the determinants of these complex heart-lung interactions. RECENT FINDINGS Several animal and human stu...

Long-term outcome of transfemoral thrombectomy in patients with acute iliofemoral vein thrombosis

Abstract Background: The optimal therapy of acute iliofemoral venous thrombosis is still a matter of debate. The purpose of our study was to evaluate the late results of iliofemoral thrombectomy with regard to the prevention of the development of a Post Thrombotic Syndrome (PTS). Methods: During 2000-2003, 18 patients underwent transfemoral venous thrombectomy for acute iliofemoral venous thro...
